This 200 years old house, located in the heart of the Old Town,
is a fine example for comfortable and senior-friendly living in a
confined space. Due to illness, the owner is disabled, accordingly
his objective was to create a handicapped accessible home enabling
him to continue living his own life.
The original plan was to build
a new house, but none of the available sites met his demands. Thus
he came up with an idea that, on first sight, seemed illusory: to
convert an old town house he had inherited into a handicapped accessible
home.
After he had received subsidies from an urban development fund, the
extensive reconstruction of a partly desolate old house began. Today
the owner is highly satisfied with the results. Besides the high
living standard and extras like a winter garden under the roof, he
enjoys all the amendments of urban life: level floors, short distances,
an excellent infrastructure and a stable neighbourhood.
